High School Musical Book Tag

I will admit it, I am High School Musical trash a little obsessed with High School Musical. Ever since I was a 9 year old, singing The Start of Something New extremely off-key at the top of my lungs, these have been my favorite movies. Of course with all of the *adulting* going on in my life i’m not actually an adult I just spend a lot of time on school and responsibilities I haven’t been able to watch these movies in a few years ok months. However, this book tag (that I came across on celinereads blog) is bringing back all of the HSM feels I’ve been missing out on.

1. The Start of Something New: A new favorite genre/author/series

I’m currently in the middle of reading the Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas, which is definitely a new series that I’m obsessed with!

2. What I’ve Been Looking For: A book that has all you’ve ever wanted

Ahhhh, this is sort of like asking me to pick my favorite book which is like asking me to pick my favorite child. Huh. I think I’m going to go with A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas. It literally has everything I would want in a book. It has badass female characters, a *swoon-worthy* guy, action, thick plot + world building, romance, and some of the funnies!

3. Fabulous: A book with the biggest diva

This one is hard because I have not read that many books with diva’s. However, for the purpose of choosing one for this book tag, I nominate Jessamine Lovelace from the Infernal Devices. She is quite a diva at the beginning of the story, but grows and flourishes into quite a different character nearing the end of the series.

4. Status Quo: A stereotype defying character

I feel like my answer for this doesn’t make much sense, but I’ll go for it anyways. I feel like Celaena Sardothien (from the Throne of Glass series) is a stereotype defying character not to mention overall badass because she is quite literally an assassin who loves to shop. Normally in high fantasy books with badass female protagonists, we get girls who are more tomboys (i.e. Katniss Everdeen, Tris Prior, Clary Fray, etc.). Celaena, on the other hand, loves to dress up, get her hair and nails done, and owns a very exquisite wardrobe.

5. Boys are Back: The best bromance

Hands down Will Herondale and Jem Carstairs from The Infernal Devices. What better duo of boys than these two?

6. What Time is it?: Your favorite summer read

This one definitely is Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson. I remember reading this in the summer of 2015 and becoming completely head-over-heels in love with the story. I’m always up for a good to-do list, scavenger-hunt esque book with lots of adventures, mystery and strong friendships. Oh, and a Frank Porter – who wouldn’t want a Frank Porter?

7. Everyday: If you had to look at one book cover every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Hmmm, this one is hard because there are so many beautiful covers out there that I simply can’t choose. However, if I had to choose, it would be And I Darken by Kiersten White. There’s just something so elegant about the sword ripping through the purple petals on that black cover 😍.

8. Just Wanna be with You: A book you couldn’t put down

Hmmm, let’s think… what book did I buy at midnight and then proceed to read finish in the wee hours of the morning? Yeah, I’m looking at you, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Not necessarily because it was great, but because it was *ahem* Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

9. Scream: A character that frustrated you

Captain of the Guard, Heir to the throne of Anielle, the one and the only Chaol Westfall (from Sarah J. Maas’ Throne of Glass series). I am, and always was on team Dorian. Therefore, the entirety of for most of Crown of Midnight, I was extremely frustrated with Chaol for being with Celaena, but also because of his character. Sometimes the way he acted and some of his actions were just so, ya know, frustrating.

10. High School Musical: Your favorite fictional school

Hogwarts. No explanation needed.

11. Humuhumunukuapua’a: The most ridiculous book/scene/character you have ever read

Hello Dolores Umbridge, It’s your time to shine. The reason why The Order of the Phoenix is one of my least favorite Harry Potter books is mainly because of this women. The most ridiculous character I have ever come across is *ahem* *ahem* Dolores Umbridge.

12. Spring Musical Medley: The happiest ending

For me, the happiest ending to a book that I’ve read is I’ll give you the Sun by Jandy Nelson. I absolutely loved the way this book came together, and how the story folded and came full-circle to an end.
