Hi lovely readers! Have you ever read a book so good that you can’t let it go and you just sit there staring at it and repeatedly flipping the pages reading your favorite scenes? C’mon, you know you have. I definitely have more often than I’d like to admit. This brings me into a cycle of reading the same books over and over again, or better known as The Art of a Re-Read.
What it is: Constantly reading the same books over and over again because they’re just too damn good.
Side effects: Constant obsession with the book you are reading, other books aren’t as good anymore.
Outcome: Never getting actual reading of new releases done because you just. can’t. stop. reading.
A little history into my own re-reading experience: I used to never be able to re-read books. I didn’t have the attention span to be able to dedicate myself to a book that I already knew what was going to happen. Until one day. At the beginning of this year I picked up We Were Liars by E. Lockhart for the first time in over two years since I read it. I sat down and read the book in a day. I fell in love with it all over again and now I can’t stop cataloging all the books I want to re-read.
Recently, I reread A Court of Thorns and Roses and A Court of Mist and Fury. This series was so much better the second time around, and it elevated my hype for rereading books even more.
And, of course – Harry Potter. I bought these books on audible as audiobooks and I seriously just listen to them on repeat. I’m currently on my fourth or fifth reread of the entire series and I never get tired of them.
Some books I’m looking forward to rereading in the future:
- I’ll Give you the Sun by Jandy Nelson – I LOVE THIS BOOK. If you follow me on bookstagram (@my.lifewithbooks) you would understand how much I am constantly raving about this book. I read it last summer and I have been dying to read it again. Everything about this book is so beautifully written and ugh I just asdkfjalsk.
- When We Collided by Emery Lord – I read this book at about the same time I read I’ll Give you the Sun and both books just completely blew me out of the water. This book is so funny, deep, compassionate, loving, and amazing. The characters are precious little cinnamon rolls that I want to hug forever.
- Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare – At the time that I’m writing this post, the next book in this series is going to be released in about a month. I have missed the world of Cassie Clare’s books so much since I read Lady Midnight. To prepare for Lord of Shadows being released I NEED to read this book again!! I’m planning on doing this right after I finish reading A Court of Wings and Ruin when it comes out 😏.
- Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson – This book is one of my hands down favorite books of all time. I love the sense of adventure in the book and I relate so much to the main character, Emily. I read this probably two years ago so I am absolutely ready for a reread!
There it is! The art of a re-read. Do you re-read your books? What are some that you want to/have in the past? Let me know in the comments so we can talk about them! 🙂
Happy reading,
Katie
