2016 Summer Reading Goals

For the past five or six months, I haven’t been reading nearly as much as I used, or as I want to be reading. Today marks the first day that I’m on summer break, so I’m going to celebrate with a blog post about my summer reading/blogging goals.

1. Read more than 20 books:

So I know this may feel like a lot, but I’ve had such a reading withdrawal lately that I feel like as soon as I read a fantastic book, all the other books will be jumping of my shelf and into my hands. If I achieve reading more than twenty books, I think I’ll be set to achieve my goal of 50 books this year because I would only have to read 10 books from September to December.

2. Read a classic:

This one is hard. I’m not really sure what classics I want to read yet, I still have to look some up. I’ve been wanting to read a classic because I’ve been wanting to reach out of the YA genre and branch my reading variety to include more and more genres. Maybe I’ll read the Great Gatsby.

3. Complete a hyped series:

Lately there has been loads of releases to the ends of series, and there’s just been a lot of series that I’ve started but haven’t gotten around to finishing yet. If I can finish any of these series, I will feel so completed with my life.

  • The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater
  • Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Mass
  • A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Mass
  • The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

4. Read a book that’s been sitting on my shelf for forever:

There are tons of these. I don’t so much as have a habit of buying books and then not reading them, but I have been getting so behind with my reading that they’re starting to pile up. Let’s see, some of these books are:

  • Rebel of the Sands by Alwyn Hamilton
  • Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo
  • Scarlett Epstein Hates it Here by Anna Breslaw

5. Read a book that I’ve been dying to read:

Sometimes when I’m blogging or bookstagramming I get caught up in all the books that I have to read to blog about or to take pictures of that I lose sight of the reason why I’m on bookstagram or have a blog. It’s to spread the love about the books I love, and I enjoyed. So, some of the books that I’m really interested in or want to read really bad are:

  • With Malice by Eileen Cook
  • Library of Souls by Ransom Riggs
  • My Lady Jane by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows

6. Blog once a week:

Ok this one is going to be the hardest for me. When I first got my website up I was all like woohoo, yay I did it. But in reality I really didn’t do anything. I know I have to write to actually grow an audience. I could never find the time to write during school, but I think I’ll be able to over the summer and then learn how to time manage to write during school.

7. Learn to take better bookstagram pictures/grow as a bookstagrammer:

Lately I haven’t been happy with the quality of my pictures on bookstagram. I know there’s multiple reasons for this – I use my iPhone, I don’t have good lighting, my room is messy and makes for a poor background – but I also know that I should be able to get around them. I’m saving up to get a camera, and I’m redecorating and cleaning my room. I always strive to be that bookstagrammer with the perfect photos who gets sent book mail from publishers to read and review. I know that with hard work and dedication, I can reach that goal. For me it’s not really about the follower count, but It’s more about spreading my love of books and talking about my favorite books with the bookstagram community.

I’ll keep you updated with my progress as I try to complete these goals that I set. Crossing my fingers I can complete them. Let me know what your summer reading goals are in the comments below! 🙂

love always,

Katie
